βοΈ Welcome back to Summer 2! βοΈ
We hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for another exciting and busy half term ahead ππ.
This half term, our topic is all about Food ππ₯π₯. The children will be learning about different fruits and vegetables, as well as the animals that provide us with food ππ₯π. We will explore where our food comes from and begin to think about making healthy food choices π½οΈπ.
We will also be learning about the life cycle of potatoes π₯π±. The children will have the opportunity to grow their own potatoes and even make something tasty with them during a visit to our school kitchen π©π³β¨.
Our role play area this half term will be a supermarket π, giving the children lots of opportunities to practise speaking and listening skills, discuss healthy foods, and learn more about shopping and food choices.
To support our learning, we will also be visiting Reddish Vale Farm ππ, where the children will learn more about farm animals and the foods they provide.
In Maths π’, we will be working on counting beyond 20, practising number formation βοΈ, exploring odd and even numbers, and learning more about 2D and 3D shapes and patterns πΊπ§.
In Art π¨, the children will continue experimenting with a variety of painting materials and techniques ποΈ, as well as creating exciting artwork using vegetable printing π₯¦π β¨.
In English π, our key text will be Supertato π¦ΈβοΈπ₯. We will be creating actions and story maps to help us learn and retell the story in a fun and engaging way.
πβοΈ PE will take place on Tuesdays. Please ensure all PE kits are clearly labelled π·οΈ and kept in school each week.
Homework will continue to be sent home on Fridays βοΈ. Please support your child in completing their work and return it to school by the following Wednesday π .
Phonics videos linked to your child’s current learning have been shared via Class Dojo π». Please encourage your child to access these and practise regularly at home πβ¨.
As we move towards the end of the Reception year π, we will also begin thinking about the exciting move to Year 1 π. The children will have opportunities to talk about what they are looking forward to, as well as any worries they may have π. In July, the children will take part in a transition day where they will visit their new classroom and spend time with their new teacher π.
If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to us at the door at home time πͺ or send us a message on Dojo π¬.
We are looking forward to a fantastic final half term together! πβ¨

Phonics is the foundation for children beginning their reading journey. In Reception we follow the scheme created by Read Write Inc. Through Read Write Inc children can build on letter formation while learning to read.
I will send links to the RWI phonics videos appropriate for your child's learning via messages on Class Dojo. These links do expire after a few weeks, so if you need further access, please let me know!
The Early Learning Goals (ELGs) are a set of important milestones that children work towards by the end of their Reception year π. They come from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and outline the key skills and knowledge children are expected to develop across areas such as communication and language π£οΈ, physical development π, literacy and maths π€π’.
Throughout the year, we support the children in working towards these goals through a balance of play-based learning, adult-led activities and everyday classroom experiences π¨π. Learning is carefully planned to be engaging, practical and suited to each child’s needs.
We regularly observe and assess children’s learning to see how they are progressing towards the Early Learning Goals π. These observations help us to plan next steps and provide the right level of support and challenge for every child.
At the end of Reception, each child is assessed against the Early Learning Goals and will be described as either emerging or expected in each area of learning. This helps to give a clear picture of their development and readiness for Year 1.
We work closely with parents and carers π€, as your support at home plays a very important role in your child’s learning journey. If you ever have any questions about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to speak to us π.
